Venezuela Earthquake Disaster: Fatalities Hit 235, Thousands Injured

Venezuelan health officials have confirmed that the catastrophic earthquake which recently struck the nation has now claimed 235 lives, with over 4,300 individuals sustaining various injuries. During an address on the state-owned Venezolana de Televisión, Carlos Alvarado, Venezuela's Health Minister, disclosed that medical facilities across the country admitted around 235 people who were either deceased on arrival or succumbed to their injuries soon after being brought in.
"Regrettably, we received approximately 235 patients who lacked vital signs, or they passed away shortly after arriving at our medical centres," Alvarado stated. He further noted that medical personnel nationwide have been attending to over 4,300 injured individuals, even as intensive emergency and rescue efforts persist following the calamity.
Officials are presently evaluating the comprehensive scale of destruction inflicted by the seismic event, and it is anticipated that the casualty count might increase as search and recovery operations advance. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the twin tremors, which occurred on Wednesday local time, registered magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5 respectively. In response, the United Nations has issued a plea for immediate global aid, emphasizing that Venezuela will need a significant, organized international effort to rebuild and recover from the devastating impact of the disaster.
