Three Die as Gunmen Unleash Terror in Plateau Community

A recent attack by suspected gunmen in Torok community, located within Rim village of Riyom Local Government Area in Plateau State, has resulted in the tragic deaths of three individuals. According to local residents, the incident unfolded around 7 p.m. on Wednesday, plunging the community into a state of grief and causing inhabitants to flee their homes in search of safety. The victims have been identified as Ezekiel Zakka, David Yakubu, and Dauda Habila.
Albert Tok, a resident, informed Daily Trust that the attackers descended upon the community, opening fire indiscriminately on the residents before making their escape.
The Berom Youth Moulders-Association (BYM) has issued a strong condemnation of the killings, denouncing the assault as barbaric and urging security agencies to swiftly apprehend those responsible. In an official statement released by its National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, on behalf of the National President, Barr. Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, the association extended its heartfelt condolences to the grieving families, the people of Torok community, and the entire Berom ethnic group.
BYM characterized this latest act of violence as yet another painful reminder of the ongoing security challenges plaguing Berom communities, expressing dismay that innocent lives continue to be lost while the perpetrators frequently evade justice. The association implored security forces to initiate a thorough manhunt for the attackers, ensuring their arrest and subsequent prosecution in accordance with legal provisions.
Furthermore, BYM called upon both the Plateau State Government and the Federal Government to move beyond mere condemnations and implement concrete measures to safeguard vulnerable communities across Riyom Local Government Area and other affected parts of the state. The group also appealed to residents to maintain vigilance, cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible information, and to always conduct themselves within the bounds of the law. It reaffirmed that every Nigerian possesses a constitutional right to life and security, pledging its continued advocacy for justice for the victims, the apprehension and prosecution of the culprits, and the establishment of lasting peace throughout Berom communities.
