Authorities in Oyo State have announced the removal of the curfew previously enforced across ten local government areas. This development comes after a recent abduction incident that occurred within the Oriire Local Government Area.

The state government had, on Tuesday, June 23, initiated a 16-hour daily restriction of movement in these LGAs, which share borders with the old Oyo National Park. This measure was implemented to bolster security efforts and aid ongoing rescue missions. According to a directive released by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Olanike Adeyemo, via the SSG's office and officially endorsed by Permanent Secretary Musibau Babatunde, the curfew commenced on Wednesday. It was operational daily from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m.

Initially planned for a two-day duration, the restriction impacted Oriire, Orelope, Irepo, Saki West, Saki East, Atisbo, Itesiwaju, Iseyin, Olorunsogo, and Atiba local government areas.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, confirmed the lifting of the curfew on Saturday, stating that residents are now free to resume their regular daily routines. Oyelade expressed gratitude to the inhabitants of the affected areas for their collaboration and patience throughout the period of the movement restrictions. He further assured the public that the state government remains watchful, continuously assessing the security landscape in the concerned regions. The commissioner reiterated the commitment of both security agencies and the state administration to eradicate kidnapping incidents throughout Oyo State and safeguard the lives and possessions of its citizens.
