The Lagos State University community is in mourning following the death of one of its students, Otabor Joseph, who succumbed to injuries sustained during an armed robbery attack. Joseph, a student in the Department of History and International Studies, Faculty of Arts, with matriculation number 240341269, was attacked by armed robbers in the Iba area of Lagos State on Friday, 29 May, 2026. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately passed away on Tuesday, 2 June. The university's management has since announced his death and extended condolences to his family and the university community. In a statement issued by the Acting Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, Olaniyi Jeariogbe, the Vice-Chancellor, Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, expressed her heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased. The university explained that it was notified immediately after the attack and provided support to the student through the Dean of Students’ Affairs, while also maintaining contact with medical personnel at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. The university is cooperating with the police to ensure a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack. The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the university management, prayed that the Almighty God would give the family the fortitude to bear the loss and that the soul of Otabor Joseph would rest in perfect peace.
