Ogbomosho Hit by Night Attack as Police Launch Probe into NIS Office Invasion

The Oyo State Police Command has initiated a thorough investigation into a recent attack on the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) passport office in Ogbomosho. According to preliminary findings, a group of five assailants, armed with sticks and other dangerous weapons, breached the office's perimeter fence and made off with a G3 rifle, ammunition, and other items. Two immigration officers on night duty were assaulted during the incident but have since received medical attention and are in stable condition. The attack has raised concerns in Ogbomosho, which has experienced recent abductions and is currently dealing with teacher strikes over safety fears. The police have reassured residents that they remain committed to protecting lives and property, urging the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest security formation. This incident occurs 19 days after suspected Boko Haram terrorists abducted 39 students and several teachers in an attack targeting schools in Oyo state. The Nigeria Union of Teachers is currently on strike over the continued captivity of teachers and pupils abducted during attacks on schools in the Oriire local government area. The police have deployed additional personnel, including operatives from the Command Monitoring Unit and surveillance teams, to the area to prevent further incidents. In a statement, the Oyo commissioner of police, Abimbola Olugbenga, encouraged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with the police in their efforts to maintain security in the state.
