Nollywood Star Cynthia Anijekwu Seeks Public Aid Amidst Cancer Recurrence

Popular Nollywood actress, Cynthia Anijekwu, has made a poignant appeal to Nigerians, seeking financial assistance as she confronts a second battle with cancer. In a video widely shared across social media platforms on Tuesday, the screen diva disclosed that her initial cancer diagnosis occurred in 2023. Following that diagnosis, she underwent surgical intervention and chemotherapy treatments in an effort to contain the disease.

Anijekwu stated that medical professionals initially managed her condition effectively after the first round of treatment. However, the cancer has unfortunately returned, subsequently spreading to her bones. This progression necessitates a more aggressive and comprehensive treatment regimen, which includes radiation therapy and an additional surgical procedure.

Recent medical assessments have confirmed the spread of the cancer to her skeletal system, leading to a substantial increase in the cost and complexity of her ongoing care. The actress revealed that her monthly treatment expenses now escalate to approximately N600,000. She quoted doctors as recommending both radiation therapy and another surgery as crucial components of her current medical plan.

In her heartfelt plea, Anijekwu recounted her ordeal: “I have cancer in 2023 (sic). I did my surgery and took chemotherapy, but later it came back again. I’ve been in and out of the hospital. The doctor recently told me it has reached my bones, and the treatment is now much more expensive.” She further implored, “I need to live. I need to survive. I’m asking Nigerians to please help me. Anyone that can help, please, I need help. Even my hands have swollen. The cancer has affected both breasts. I need to live. Please help me. I need to survive. Your one naira, your two naira can add up to something reasonable for me to get the proper treatment for this cancer. I’m begging you, please help me.”

Before her health struggles came to public light, Anijekwu had established her career within the Nigerian film industry, participating in numerous productions in both English and Igbo languages. Despite her presence in Nollywood, there is no widely accessible record of a major blockbuster film or an extensive filmography directly associated with the actress, as public attention has recently gravitated towards her ongoing health challenge. The actress expressed that the financial strain has become unbearable for her family, prompting her decision to reach out to the general public for support.
