A tragic incident unfolded in Thailand’s Mukdahan province, northeastern region, early Thursday, July 2, when a pickup truck veered into a procession of Buddhist monks on a pilgrimage. The devastating crash, which occurred around 12 AM local time on a roadside in Ban Na Si Nuan, Mueang district, resulted in the loss of eight lives and left thirteen others seriously injured, according to police reports.

Emergency services, including rescue workers and law enforcement officers, were swiftly dispatched to the scene. They discovered several monks lying critically wounded on the road and alongside the pathway. Initial reports indicated that five monks tragically died at the accident site, while an additional three succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to nearby medical facilities. The remaining thirteen injured monks were transported to various hospitals where they are currently receiving urgent medical attention, as confirmed by local media outlets.

Preliminary investigations conducted by the police suggest that the pickup truck involved in the collision was being operated by a minor. The juvenile driver is alleged to have taken the vehicle without obtaining permission from their parent or guardian before the fatal impact with the monastic procession. Authorities have since secured the accident area to facilitate the collection of evidence as part of their ongoing inquiry into the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
