Nigerian Pastor Sparks Nicki Minaj's Drive for Persecuted Christians' Advocacy

Full Story
American hip-hop icon, Nicki Minaj, has disclosed that her Nigerian pastor, coupled with disturbing reports of violence targeting Christians within Nigeria, has motivated her to publicly champion the cause of religious persecution. The renowned rapper shared these insights during an X Takeover event held recently at Tesla’s Giga Texas facility in Austin, Texas. During the event, Minaj elaborated on her personal ties to Nigeria and urged for increased global attention to the documented instances of aggression against Christians in the West African nation.
Minaj explained that her pastor’s Nigerian heritage, alongside the substantial number of Nigerian fans she commands, has fostered a profound personal connection to the country. She stated, “For Nigeria personally, my pastor is from Nigeria, so I have a link to Nigeria because of him. And of course, I have a lot of Nigerian barbs, but what I started seeing was the brutality with which Christians are being treated there just for being Christian.”
She further expressed puzzlement regarding the silence of many public figures on this critical matter, suggesting that individuals might shy away from topics perceived as contentious. “And I thought, why isn’t anyone making a big deal out of this, you know? And sometimes when things aren’t cool to talk about, people don’t talk about it,” she remarked.
The artist conveyed her optimism that more prominent personalities and social influencers would join her in the campaign to elevate awareness about the alleged persecution faced by Christians in Nigeria. “So right now, actually, I’m hoping that more celebrities or people, influencers, I’m hoping that they come aboard the train to start speaking out about what’s happening to Christians in Nigeria. And I look forward to doing more to help in that way, in that cause,” Minaj affirmed.
Minaj’s vocal advocacy emerges amidst an ongoing international dialogue surrounding insecurity and claims of religiously motivated violence across Nigeria. It is recalled that in November 2025, she addressed a United Nations-affiliated gathering in New York, where she advocated for enhanced protection for Christians in Nigeria and globally. The rapper also brought up the issue in December 2025 during her participation at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest in Phoenix, Arizona.
