Full Story
Renowned actress Nia Long has been immortalized with a star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame, a momentous occasion celebrated alongside her family, including her sons Massai and Kez, and esteemed colleagues like Larenz Tate, Bill Bellamy, Mike Epps, and Terrence Howard. The ceremony, held on Wednesday, September 16, saw Long unveil the 2,857th star, which was placed in the Motion Pictures category.
Adding to the celebration, hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg and producer Graham King, known for his work on 'Michael,' joined Long at the event. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce further honoured the veteran actress by officially declaring September 16th as 'Nia Long Day.' A particularly heartwarming moment occurred when Snoop Dogg arrived donning a custom jacket intricately designed with images from Long’s most memorable roles, a gesture that visibly delighted and surprised the actress.
Nia Long’s illustrious career spans back to the early 1990s, where she first captivated audiences with her powerful performance in John Singleton’s critically acclaimed film, 'Boyz n the Hood.' This breakthrough role paved the way for a string of successful appearances in popular movies such as 'Friday,' 'Love Jones,' and 'The Best Man.' Her portrayal of Lisa Wilkes in the beloved television series 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air' also cemented her status as a household name across the nation.
During the ceremony, Snoop Dogg delivered a poignant speech, commending Long for her authenticity and resilience. He remarked, “Hollywood has a way of trying to change you, trying to tell you how to look, tell you how to talk, tell you who you're supposed to be, and sometimes even tell you when your time is up. But Nia? She said, ‘nah, I'm going to be Nia.’ That's why we're still standing here, celebrating her after all these years.”
