Nollywood Producer Biodun Stephen Sets Record Straight on Kissing Scenes

Renowned filmmaker Biodun Stephen has weighed in on the controversy surrounding kissing scenes in Nollywood movies. In a recent video, she addressed critics who blame producers for the intimate scenes, stating that it is not the producer's responsibility to safeguard an actor's marriage. According to Stephen, actors and their spouses are well aware of the demands of the profession, including the possibility of kissing scenes. She explained that decisions regarding such scenes are typically discussed beforehand, and some actors may decline due to personal beliefs, in which case directors will work around it. Stephen emphasized that a producer's primary duty is to ensure actors are treated professionally and presented respectfully on screen, rather than trying to 'salvage' their marriages. She also pointed out that comparing Nollywood to Hollywood is unfair, given the differences in production schedules. Unlike Hollywood, Nollywood's fast-paced production leaves little time for actors to build off-screen chemistry. Stephen's focus, she said, has always been on maintaining a professional environment for actors throughout filming.
