Ubi Franklin Opens Up on Near-Suicide After Marriage to Lilian Esoro Ended

In a deeply personal and emotional video, music executive Ubi Franklin shared his harrowing experience of nearly taking his own life following the end of his marriage to Nollywood actress Lilian Esoro. The couple, who tied the knot in November 2015, had a son named Jason together before their union was officially dissolved by an Abuja High Court in January 2021. Franklin recounted the tumultuous period leading up to their wedding, revealing that Esoro had cold feet on two separate occasions after he proposed. He recalled setting up a romantic dinner at Eko Hotel after their engagement, only for Esoro to fail to show up, leaving him embarrassed and heartbroken. The music boss also detailed an incident where Esoro returned her engagement ring, prompting him to check into a hotel. Esoro later followed him to his room, explaining that she was struggling with anxiety over their upcoming marriage. Despite their efforts to make the relationship work, the couple eventually went their separate ways. Franklin noted that the extreme emotional toll of their divorce nearly drove him to suicide, revealing that he had attempted to take his own life on multiple occasions. However, his cousin intervened, saving him from harming himself. Reflecting on the experience, Franklin said that he has come to realize that their marriage was not meant to be. He emphasized the importance of learning from the experience and moving forward, rather than harboring hatred or bitterness. Today, Franklin and Esoro co-parent their son and maintain a good friendship, with Franklin expressing gratitude for the positive outcome of their relationship.
