(VIDEO) Enough Is Enough: Ibadan Residents Flood Streets Over Rising Insecurity

IBADAN, OYO STATE — Large numbers of residents took to the streets across Ibadan on Saturday morning in protest against worsening insecurity, as public anger continues to grow over recent kidnappings and violent attacks in Oyo State.
The demonstrations come amid widespread concern over the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers from schools in Oriire Local Government Area, an incident that shocked the nation and heightened fears about the deteriorating security situation in the state. The kidnappings sparked a series of protests in Ibadan earlier this month, with residents, students, teachers, and civil society groups demanding urgent action from government authorities.
Protesters gathered at various locations across the city carrying placards and chanting solidarity songs, calling on both state and federal governments to take decisive steps to tackle insecurity and secure the release of victims still in captivity.
Many residents expressed frustration that kidnapping, armed attacks, and violent crimes are becoming increasingly common, while ordinary citizens continue to live in fear. Demonstrators argued that insecurity is no longer a distant threat but a daily reality affecting families, schools, businesses, and communities.
The recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire triggered widespread outrage across Oyo State, leading to protests in Ibadan and calls for stronger security measures. Teachers' unions, activists, and concerned residents have repeatedly demanded greater protection for schools and rural communities where criminal gangs have become increasingly active.
Protesters warned that citizens are growing tired of official assurances without visible results. They insisted that government must move beyond promises and demonstrate a clear commitment to protecting lives and property.
As crowds continued to gather across parts of Ibadan, the message from residents remained clear: Nigerians should not have to live in fear, children should be safe in schools, and communities should not be left at the mercy of criminals.
The growing protests reflect a broader national frustration with insecurity and a demand for immediate, effective, and accountable action from those entrusted with the responsibility of keeping citizens safe.
