Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Fuel Spill: Residents Risk Lives Scooping Contents

A dangerous scene unfolded on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, specifically near the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road, after a petrol tanker overturned and discharged its highly flammable product. Eyewitnesses captured videos depicting scores of individuals, both men and women, rushing to the accident site armed with buckets, jerrycans, and various containers to collect the spilled fuel.

The footage showed residents actively scooping the petroleum product from drainage channels and other areas where it had accumulated, seemingly oblivious to the significant risk of fire or explosion. This perilous activity continued despite the presence of emergency personnel.
