Yakaka Yerima Celebrates Milestone as Adopted Daughter Graduates Nursery School

In a heartwarming Facebook post on Monday, August 3, 2026, Yakaka Yerima, a resident of Maiduguri, shared her joy as her adopted daughter marked a significant milestone - graduating from nursery school. Yakaka's journey with the child began six years ago when she adopted the baby girl, who had lost her father to insurgency before she was born and her mother during childbirth. The child's father was killed in a terrorist attack, while her mother, who was pregnant at the time, died during delivery. The baby was initially taken to an orphanage, but Yakaka, who already had an 11-month-old child of her own, was deeply moved by the baby's plight. For three consecutive nights, she couldn't sleep, pondering the baby's fate without a mother's love. Eventually, she decided to bring the baby home and breastfeed her alongside her own child. As Yakaka reflected on her decision, she wrote, 'Six years ago, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I chose to adopt a baby girl who lost her father to insurgency before she was even born and lost her mother while she was coming into this world.' She continued, 'She was taken to an orphanage, but for three nights, I couldn't sleep properly. I kept wondering how such a tiny, helpless baby would survive without a mother's love.' Yakaka's selfless act of adopting and breastfeeding the baby has resulted in an unbreakable bond between them. As she watched her adopted daughter graduate from nursery school, Yakaka's heart was filled with pride and gratitude. She expressed her feelings, saying, 'Today, my heart is overflowing as I watched her graduate from nursery school. The fragile little baby Allah entrusted to me is gradually becoming a big girl.' Yakaka prayed for her daughter's continued growth and success, 'May Allah continue to bless and protect you my darling. May He guide your steps, increase you in wisdom and goodness, and make you the coolness of my eyes. Congratulations, my beautiful angel. Mommy is so proud of you.'
