Oyo State Sets Up Probe Panel To Investigate Oriire School Abduction

In a bid to get to the bottom of the recent abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has inaugurated a Judicial Commission of Inquiry. The commission, led by former Court of Appeal Justice Mojeed Owoade, has been tasked with establishing the facts surrounding the incident and identifying any lapses that may have contributed to it. The governor, while inaugurating the commission, noted that the abduction was not just an attack on the affected communities but also an assault on the right of every Nigerian child to learn in safety. He expressed gratitude for the safe return of the victims but emphasized that the state's duty goes beyond just rescuing them. Makinde charged the commission with the responsibility of recommending measures to strengthen the protection of schools and communities across the state, stressing that their work is critical to preventing a recurrence of such tragedies. The commission has been given an initial one-month period to complete its assignment, with the option of an extension if necessary. The governor assured that the state government would provide all necessary support to enable the commission to discharge its duties independently and professionally. In his remarks, the chairman of the commission, Hon. Justice Mojeed Owoade, assured the public that the commission would operate solely on the truth and expressed confidence in the competence of its members. The inauguration ceremony was attended by top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, and the Chief Judge of Oyo State, Hon. Justice Iyabo Yerima.
