Tragedy Strikes Uganda as School Bus Accident Claims 21 Lives

A devastating bus crash in eastern Uganda has resulted in the loss of 21 lives, including 20 pupils and the founder of King David Junior School, Mr. Tadeo Ssekade. The accident occurred on Thursday evening while the pupils were returning from an educational trip to the popular Sipi Falls tourist destination. According to eyewitnesses, the bus developed a mechanical fault before the driver lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn in Chekwatit village, Kawowo area. Uganda's Minister of Local Government, Balaam Ateenyi Barugahara, confirmed the casualty figure, stating that '20 children and 1 adult, who happens to be the founder and director, Mr. Tadeo Ssekade, have gone to be with the Lord.' The incident has raised concerns over school transport safety in Uganda, where road crashes claim thousands of lives annually due to speeding, poorly maintained vehicles, and hazardous road conditions. Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the bus crashed at about 8:00 p.m. local time, leaving dozens of other passengers, including school staff, with injuries. Local residents and emergency responders joined forces to rescue survivors from the wreckage, with eyewitness videos circulating on social media showing the severely damaged bus.
