Governor Dikko Radda Expands Automatic Job Offer to Katsina's First-Class Graduates Nationally

Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has broadened the scope of automatic employment opportunities for indigenes achieving first-class honours from tertiary institutions across Nigeria. This significant announcement was made by Radda on Sunday, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), during the closing ceremony and prize-giving event of the inaugural Katsina State Students’ Week, hosted at Bayero University, Kano.
The governor articulated that this policy aims to draw highly intelligent individuals into the state's civil service, thereby enhancing its capability for efficient public service provision.
Radda stated, “When I assumed office, I introduced automatic employment for students who graduated with first-class degrees. We implemented this policy at Umaru Musa Yar’adua University and other institutions located in Katsina State.”
He further declared, “Today, I am pleased to expand the offer to all Katsina State students across the country who graduate with first-class degrees from this year onward.”
The governor emphasized the intentionality behind this move, adding, “This decision is deliberate. If we recruit a significant number of first-class graduates into the civil service, Katsina State will have one of the most efficient and productive civil services in the country within the next 10 to 15 years.”
He continued, “You will have a civil service that can compete favourably with any state in the federation and even rival those at the federal level because we are bringing highly talented individuals into the service.”
Governor Radda also highlighted his administration's commitment to education, noting efforts to clear all pending scholarship payments and increase bursary provisions. These measures, he explained, are designed to motivate students to stay enrolled and chase their educational goals. He further claimed that the government has made substantial progress in reducing the population of out-of-school children within the state, thereby deterring many from engaging in detrimental social behaviours.
Education, the governor reiterated, remains a cornerstone of his government's agenda, with a considerable portion of the state's annual budget consistently dedicated to the sector. He mentioned that his administration has successfully employed over 10,000 teachers, overseen the construction of new educational facilities, and renovated existing school infrastructure throughout Katsina State.
Radda encouraged students to maintain their pursuit of academic excellence and to contribute significantly to the progress of Katsina State. He expressed immense pride in the exceptional achievements of Katsina students, stating it made him proud to serve as both a native and the governor of the state.
In his address, Professor Haruna Musa-Muhammad, the Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), commended Governor Radda, characterizing him as a leader who prioritizes student welfare. Professor Musa-Muhammad applauded the enhancement of the state's scholarship program and affirmed BUK's willingness to collaborate with the Katsina State Government in fostering educational advancement.
Earlier in the event, Muhammad Nagaske, the convener and Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Matters, explained that the Students’ Week was organized with objectives including fostering cooperation, promoting high academic standards, encouraging cultural interaction, and identifying talents among students from diverse institutions. NAN reported that the week-long gathering saw the participation of Katsina students enrolled in tertiary institutions across Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, Borno, and other states. Prizes were awarded to participants who demonstrated outstanding performance in the various activities held throughout the week, which encompassed sports, academic contests, and cultural presentations.
