Tinubu Moves to Boost Oyo Security with 1,000 New Forest Guards

In response to the recent abduction of students and teachers in Oyo State, President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the recruitment of 1,000 forest guards to bolster security in the area. This development was made public on Sunday, May 31, during a visit by a high-powered federal government delegation to the communities of Esiele and Yawota in Oriire Local Government Area. The delegation, led by the President's Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, met with community leaders and lawmakers to discuss the abduction of pupils and teachers from Community Grammar School, Baptist Nursery and Primary School, and L.A. Primary School, which occurred on May 15, 2026. Gbajabiamila revealed that the President has instructed a specialized security unit with advanced rescue capabilities to intensify efforts to secure the release of the abducted pupils and teachers. According to Gbajabiamila, 'Mr. President is deeply troubled by this incident. Whatever it takes, our children and teachers will be brought back home safely. He has issued all necessary directives and is providing every support required by our security agencies to achieve that objective. Your pain and anxiety are understood. By the grace of God, your children will return safely to your arms.' The President's Chief of Staff also assured the community that the rescue operation would be carefully coordinated and intelligence-led, utilizing both kinetic and non-kinetic measures to ensure the safe return of the victims. Furthermore, the delegation announced that requests for the establishment of a military base in the area would be transmitted to the President for consideration and approval.
