An advocacy group, Ogun Crime Watch, has formally requested the Nigeria Police Force to interrogate popular Nollywood actor Kunle Afod. The call stems from a video Afod reportedly shared online, which allegedly criticized the emergency response to a recent road traffic accident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, specifically near Saapade.

According to a statement released by Olumide Martin, the president of Ogun Crime Watch, emergency services from Ogun State arrived at the crash site at 12:28 p.m. on the day of the incident, which occurred on a Friday. The group highlighted that Afod's video, which questioned the response, was purportedly uploaded just one minute later, at 12:29 p.m. They assert that first responders were already actively assisting victims when the actor's footage went live.

Ogun Crime Watch is urging the police to investigate several aspects: the exact time the video was recorded, the circumstances surrounding its online publication, and whether any laws were contravened by its content. The organisation further alleged that the video was a deliberate attempt to cast the state government's emergency services in a negative light, erode public trust, and potentially aid political adversaries.

While affirming its support for freedom of expression and the right to legitimate critique of government operations, the group stressed the importance of accuracy and responsibility in public statements concerning emergencies.

The crash itself involved a Mazda bus carrying 18 passengers. Reports indicate the vehicle experienced a tyre burst before colliding with a concrete barrier close to Saapade. The incident resulted in injuries to thirteen passengers, who were subsequently transported to various hospitals for medical attention. Ogun Crime Watch extended its sympathies to the injured individuals and their families, wishing them a swift recovery.

The group also took the opportunity to advise motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits, refrain from dangerous driving practices, ensure their vehicles are well-maintained, and comply with all regulations set forth by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Finally, Ogun Crime Watch issued a strong appeal to public figures and social media influencers. They urged them to diligently verify information before disseminating any content related to emergency situations, cautioning that unverified or inaccurate reports could unnecessarily incite panic and undermine confidence in the crucial work of emergency responders.
