CP Ordered by Full Probe of NDC Secretariat Shooting Allegations Enugu

Full Story
The Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has initiated a comprehensive inquiry into a reported incident of gunfire. This alleged shooting, said to have been carried out by unknown armed individuals, occurred on October 10, 2026, around 2:30 p.m., directly outside the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) secretariat in Enugu. The disturbance reportedly left one man, who was working on a vehicle by the roadside, with what appeared to be a gunshot wound. Additionally, five vehicles parked in the vicinity sustained damage to their windscreens.
According to a release from the command's spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, police personnel swiftly responded to a distress call regarding the event. Officers arrived at the location, brought the situation under control, and transported the injured individual to a medical facility. The victim is currently undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable health. Commissioner Giwa has instructed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to actively pursue leads, identify, and arrest those responsible for the attack.
SP Ndukwe also highlighted a distinct but related event that transpired earlier on the same day, around 11:30 a.m. Joint security forces, comprising Police and military operatives, intervened to disperse alleged members of the NDC who had converged disorderly at the entry point of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu. Initial investigations suggest that airport officials had prevented a large group of party supporters from accessing the airport to welcome their governorship candidate. This restriction reportedly led to a disagreement among the party members themselves, which then escalated into a physical altercation, necessitating the involvement of the combined security team.
