Nigerian Men's Online Reactions to Sister's Independence Declaration Stir Controversy

A Nigerian woman residing in Canada recently took to social media to call out Nigerian men, sharing private messages her sister received after publicly declaring her independence from needing a man.

Chisara Agoha, the woman behind the post, unveiled screenshots of conversations from two different men who appeared to take offense at her UK-based sister's comfort with her single status. One particular exchange showed a man instructing Agoha’s sister that she would eventually require a male partner, subsequently advising her to 'humble herself'.

In another instance, an individual initiated contact with a greeting and introduction. However, upon receiving no response from the sister, he resorted to demeaning her for ignoring his messages.

Accompanying the shared messages, Chisara Agoha expressed her observations on the matter, stating: 'I have never seen a group of men as easily triggered as Nigerian men. Most Nigerian men have built their self-worth around women needing them, even when they offer less than the bare minimum. So, once a woman says they do not want marriage or a man, they are so triggered. My younger sister said something like, "Not succeeding without a man," on TikTok. Men went on a rampage in her comment section. Some came to her private messages. One who has been saying hello and introducing himself, but my sister didn't respond, sent the message in the screenshot.'
