Ogun Youngsters Commit to Shun Cultism, Cybercrime After Police Outreach

A significant number of young individuals, comprising both teenagers and young adults across Ogun State, have collectively vowed to distance themselves from cultism, illicit drug use, cybercrime, and similar societal ills. This commitment followed a comprehensive youth awareness initiative spearheaded by the Ogun State Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).

The program took place during the Royal Ambassador Ogun Baptist Conference, specifically the Ephphatha 2026 event, as detailed in a press statement released on Monday by ASP Oluborode Opeyemi, who serves as the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the Ogun State Command.

Operating in line with the strategic vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and under the direct supervision of CP Bode Ojajuni, the Commissioner of Police for Ogun State Command, the POCACOV team in Ogun State, with ASP Oluborode Opeyemi as its State Coordinator, successfully executed this youth sensitization effort.

Authorities stated that this “high-impact engagement” equipped hundreds of young people with crucial understanding to stand firm against detrimental societal influences. This empowerment culminated in a unified promise from all participants to renounce cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime, and other associated vices, opting instead for roles as responsible community leaders.

Throughout the interactive segments of the program, ASP Oluborode Opeyemi and his POCACOV colleagues underscored the “severe, long-term dangers” inherent in active participation in cultism, gang violence, substance abuse, cybercrime, and other forms of social misconduct. The official statement further indicated that the team offered practical insights into how such illegal activities can devastate promising futures, jeopardize personal safety, and disrupt harmony within educational environments and the wider community.

The awareness campaign particularly stressed proactive principles such as self-discipline, fostering positive peer influence, and promoting individual accountability. POCACOV officials implored the young attendees to acknowledge their critical role as primary contributors to establishing secure surroundings. They illustrated how making sound character decisions and exhibiting early ethical leadership are the most potent safeguards against succumbing to criminal temptations.

The program concluded with a collective and unanimous declaration from the young participants, who pledged to maintain elevated moral standards, resist illegal inducements, and function as anti-vice advocates within their various schools and local communities. Concurrently, the Ogun State POCACOV reiterated its unwavering commitment to ongoing community policing efforts and preventative outreach initiatives specifically targeting youth throughout the state.
