Doctors, Others Paraded by Police Over Alleged Organ Harvesting Ring in Nasarawa — full story

Full Story
Nigeria's Police Force recently presented four individuals, among them two medical specialists in kidney diseases, before the public concerning a suspected organ harvesting network operating in Nasarawa State. Details from the police press briefing, as reported by Channels Television, indicated that the alleged syndicate specifically targeted susceptible young men, enticing them to donate their kidneys. These donors were reportedly compensated with amounts significantly lower than the actual worth of the organs.
Investigators stated that one individual who underwent the procedure purportedly received approximately $1,250, while another donor was said to have been paid N7 million following the removal of his kidney. Furthermore, it was alleged by the investigators that falsified documents, such as birth certificates, affidavits, consent forms, and various identification papers, were employed to streamline these operations and obscure the true identities of certain individuals involved. During the same briefing, one person who claimed to be a victim shared his experience, detailing how he was misled into agreeing to a kidney donation.
A spokesperson for Wellington Clinic, the medical facility where some of these alleged surgical procedures occurred, also spoke to the press. The representative asserted that the clinic's role was strictly to offer the surgical venue and that it had no knowledge of any illicit actions concerning alterations to donor identities. Police authorities confirmed that investigations are still active, with efforts focused on identifying and arresting additional members of the suspected criminal network.
