A disturbing incident has unfolded in Ankyoov, a community within the Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State, where a 25-year-old woman, Erdoo Ugede, has been taken into custody by the police. According to reports from community sources, Ugede is accused of killing the two-month-old baby of her husband's alleged mistress. The events leading up to the tragedy began when Ugede, who is childless, surprisingly invited the mistress and her infant to live with her in her marital home, despite being aware that the baby was fathered by her husband. The community found this gesture unusual but not immediately suspicious. However, the situation took a deadly turn when the baby's mother briefly left the infant in Ugede's care to visit a nearby market. It is alleged that during this time, Ugede inflicted fatal injuries on the two-month-old baby with an object. The cries of the baby drew the attention of neighbors, who rushed to the scene and prevented Ugede from escaping. The incident has sparked widespread outrage among community members, with some youths attempting to attack Ugede before other residents intervened and alerted the police. Authorities from the Aliade Police Division arrived promptly and took Ugede into custody. At the time of this report, efforts to obtain an official statement from the Benue State Police Command were unsuccessful, as the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, was unreachable. The police are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
