An FCT High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of two siblings and a third individual following their arraignment by the Federal Capital Territory Police Command. The trio faces charges related to the alleged murder of the siblings' father, Adimike Godwin, in the Guzape area.

The defendants, identified as Adimike Anthony, Adimike Stephany, and Comfort Ajibade, appeared before the court on a four-count charge. These charges include criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide, culpable homicide itself, and violations under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.

Following their appearance, the court postponed the case until September 30, 2026, and mandated that all three defendants be held at the Suleja Correctional Centre until subsequent legal proceedings.

According to a statement released on Monday by Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, law enforcement officers discovered the deceased with several stab wounds after responding to a distress call received on May 15, 2026. Adeh elaborated, stating, “The tragic incident occurred on the 15th of May, 2026, when a distress call was received at the Guzape Divisional Headquarters from a relative of the deceased reporting that he was unresponsive to attempts to reach him.”

She further explained that investigators arriving at the location discovered Adimike Godwin unconscious within his residence. “Police detectives promptly responded to the scene and found him lying unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds. He was immediately rushed to Karu General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel on duty,” Adeh confirmed.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, subsequently directed a thorough inquiry into the matter, which resulted in the initial apprehension of five individuals, Adeh noted. “Following a discreet and comprehensive investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, five suspects were initially arrested in connection with the case, comprising Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany, Comfort Ajibade, the deceased’s driver and gateman,” the statement detailed. However, after the conclusion of the investigation, only Anthony, Stephany, and Ajibade were ultimately charged in court, she clarified.

The police spokesperson confirmed that the trio faces joint charges for conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and for culpable homicide itself, pertaining to Adimike Godwin’s death. Adeh further revealed, “In addition, Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony was separately charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, while Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade were jointly charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, contrary to the provisions of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.”

The court’s adjournment until September 30, 2026, for subsequent proceedings, and the order for the defendants’ remand at the Suleja Correctional Centre, was also confirmed by Adeh. She reiterated the FCT Police Command’s dedication to securing justice in this particular case. “The FCT Police Command assures residents of the Federal Capital Territory that it will continue to pursue justice for victims of crime while respecting the constitutional rights of all persons throughout the judicial process,” Adeh concluded.
