Maiduguri Residents Relieved as Fake Soldier is Apprehended by Nigerian Army

In a joint operation, the 7 Division Garrison of the Nigerian Army and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) have successfully apprehended a suspect who had been impersonating a soldier to rob residents in the Shuwari area of Maiduguri, Borno State. The suspect, identified as Abdulazeez Mohammed, was arrested on July 1, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., following the receipt of credible intelligence regarding his activities in the area. According to security sources, Mohammed would often dress in military camouflage to gain the trust of residents before stealing their mobile phones and other valuables. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, troops from the 7 Division Garrison, supported by members of the CJTF, mobilized to the location and arrested the suspect without any incident. The suspect is currently being held in military custody and is undergoing further investigation to determine the full extent of his activities and potential links to any criminal syndicates. Security authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report anyone suspected of unlawfully wearing military uniforms or engaging in suspicious activities, as impersonating members of the Armed Forces is a serious offense under Nigerian law.
