Benue State Witnesses Abduction of Pastor, Two Church Members by Armed Men

A disturbing incident has unfolded in Benue State, where a pastor and two members of his church have been abducted by gunmen. The victims, including Rev. Dr. Samuel Gbinde, the Resident Pastor of NKST Andyar in Saghev, were taken from the pastor's residence at the church premises in the early hours of Tuesday, June 30, 2026. The Universal Reformed Christian Church, also known as Nongo u Kristu u i Ser u sha Tar, NKST, has confirmed the abduction in a statement released on the same day. According to the statement signed by the NKST General Secretary, Rev. Dr. T. A. Targba, the church is calling on its clergy, members, and the general public to engage in fervent prayers for the safe and unconditional release of Rev. Dr. Gbinde and the two church members. The church has also expressed its sympathy to the affected families and the congregation, praying that God grants them the strength, comfort, and hope needed during this challenging time. Furthermore, NKST is urging the relevant security agencies, as well as the Benue State and Federal Governments, to take swift action to rescue the victims and apprehend those responsible for the abduction. The church emphasizes the need for proactive measures to tackle kidnapping and other forms of insecurity, rather than just responding after the incidents occur. Despite the situation, the church remains steadfast in its faith, trusting in God for the safe return of Rev. Dr. Gbinde, his companions, and all those currently being held captive.
