The pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has expressed its appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, as well as the governors of Ogun and Lagos states, Dapo Abiodun and Babajide Sanwo-Olu respectively, for their concerted efforts in tackling the surge in kidnapping and banditry along the Sagamu-Ore Road corridor. In a commendation letter issued on behalf of its leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, and signed by the National Organising Secretary, Kole Omololu, Afenifere praised the security chiefs and state governments for restoring confidence in the area through coordinated security operations. The organisation noted that the operations, which have significantly curtailed criminal activities in the area, demonstrate purposeful leadership, professional policing, and effective inter-state collaboration. This development comes after Afenifere had earlier expressed concern over the rising cases of kidnapping and terror attacks in Yorubaland and other parts of the country. The organisation had stated that the frequent occurrence of such incidents in various parts of the country, including Yorubaland, was a source of concern. However, with the commitment shown by the Ogun and Lagos State governors in supporting security agencies, Afenifere believes that an enabling environment has been created for law enforcement personnel to discharge their constitutional responsibilities effectively. The organisation specifically commended the Inspector-General of Police for providing strategic operational direction and advancing intelligence-led policing, which has strengthened the Nigeria Police Force's capacity to combat organised crime. Afenifere also reserved special commendation for the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Olubode Ojajuni, and the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, for their roles in the joint security operation. The organisation paid tribute to the officers and men who participated in the operations, describing them as courageous, patriotic, and professional in confronting armed criminals. Afenifere reaffirmed its support for sustained security operations, declaring that there would be no safe haven for kidnappers, bandits, and other violent criminals in Yorubaland. The organisation concluded by expressing the gratitude of the Yoruba people to the security agencies and political leaders for their exemplary display of courage, dedication, and public service in the ongoing fight against violent crime.
