Authorities in Edo State have apprehended a 48-year-old individual, Lucky Alabi, for orchestrating his own fake kidnapping in the Igarra area. The Edo State Police Command's spokesperson, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed this development in a statement released on Sunday, June 28, 2026. Alabi was taken into custody alongside his alleged collaborator, Taiye Enahoro.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Enahoro reportedly reached out to Alabi's family members, falsely claiming that Alabi had been abducted and subsequently demanded a sum of N4 million for his release. The official statement from the Edo State Police Command detailed the incident: “The Edo State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that on 26th June, 2026, at about 1030hrs, operatives of Igarra Division arrested two suspects, Lucky Alabi ‘M’, 48 years, and Taiye Enahoro ‘M’, 37 years, both of Uneme Akpama Community, for conspiring to stage the fake kidnapping of Lucky Alabi.”

The police operatives, acting on credible intelligence and through thorough investigative efforts, uncovered the deceptive scheme. Both suspects were successfully arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that the fraudulent plan was put into action on June 23, 2026. On this date, Taiye Enahoro allegedly made multiple phone calls to Lucky Alabi’s relatives, falsely informing them of Alabi’s purported kidnapping and demanding a ransom of Four Million Naira (N4,000,000) for his freedom.

Both individuals have confessed to their respective roles in the staged abduction. They are expected to be arraigned in court once the investigation is concluded. The Commissioner of Police for Edo State Command, CP Monday Agbonika, fdc, issued a stern warning to the public against engaging in any form of criminal deception, including staging kidnappings to extort money from unsuspecting relatives. The Command reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring that all individuals involved in criminal acts face justice and urged members of the public to promptly report any suspicious activities.
