Rivers Police Intercept Suspect, Discover Pistol Hidden in Bread Loaf

The Rivers State Police Command has announced the apprehension of a man identified as Brayas Nanas, after officers uncovered a firearm cleverly hidden within a loaf of bread in his possession. This significant arrest occurred during a routine security check conducted by command operatives along Azikiwe Road, specifically near the Red Cross Junction in Port Harcourt.
During the operation, law enforcement personnel intercepted a vehicle and proceeded to conduct a thorough search of its occupants. It was during this search that a Browning pistol, ingeniously tucked away inside a loaf of bread, was confiscated from Mr. Nanas. The suspect, a resident of New Road, Borikiri, Port Harcourt, was reportedly travelling as a passenger in the intercepted vehicle.
Initial inquiries into the matter have revealed that the recovered firearm lacked a discernible serial number, prompting concerns regarding its origin and the suspect's intentions for its use. Furthermore, Mr. Nanas reportedly admitted ownership of the weapon. He also disclosed that he acquired the pistol in Okrika for a sum of Eight Hundred Thousand Naira (N800,000.00).
Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police for the Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, issued a call to action for residents. He urged the public to maintain a high level of vigilance and security consciousness at all times. CP Adepoju emphasized that the discovery of a weapon concealed in such an unusual manner highlights the increasingly sophisticated and deceptive tactics employed by criminal elements to evade law enforcement detection.
