Dozen Boko Haram Family Members Surrender to Borno Troops — Over

A total of eleven individuals, identified as family members of Boko Haram terrorists, have reportedly given themselves up to Nigerian military personnel operating under Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State. The group, comprising five women and six children, surrendered on June 24, 2026, around 6:00 p.m., at distinct locations within the Banki area of Bama Local Government Area.
According to intelligence sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the surrender occurred in two separate incidents. Four women and four minors, originating from Chongolo village, presented themselves to soldiers of the 152 Task Force Battalion. Concurrently, another woman and two children from Ladantar surrendered to troops attached to the 151 Task Force Battalion at Banki Junction.
Initial investigations conducted by the military revealed that all eleven individuals are relatives of Boko Haram militants and had fled insurgent strongholds in search of safety and security. Following their documentation and preliminary screening by the troops, the surrendered persons were subsequently transferred to the Bama Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) Camp. There, they are expected to undergo further processing and rehabilitation, in line with established protocols for such cases.
Military officials indicate that these surrenders are part of an ongoing trend of defections from terrorist enclaves. They attribute this to the consistent and intensified military operations carried out by Operation HADIN KAI, which continues to significantly weaken the various insurgent factions active in Nigeria's North-East region. While the overall security landscape across the operational theatre remains largely stable, it is also acknowledged to be unpredictable. Troops, however, are maintaining their vigilance and high morale as counter-insurgency efforts persist.
