Oborevwori Calls for United Front Against Criminality at Delta Security Summit

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Wednesday, emphasized the critical need for joint efforts to tackle terrorism, kidnapping, and various other criminal activities, stating that safeguarding lives and property is a responsibility that extends beyond just the government and its security agencies. This declaration was made during his keynote address at the Delta State Security Summit 2026, hosted at the Government House in Asaba, according to a statement released by the governor’s media office on Thursday.
The summit, which adopted the theme “Security: A Collective Responsibility,” convened a diverse group of participants, including high-ranking security officials, chairpersons of local government areas, revered traditional rulers, influential community leaders, representatives from civil society organizations, youth and women groups, and prominent figures from the business sector.
Governor Oborevwori underscored that the protection of citizens' lives and assets forms the bedrock of societal advancement, asserting that no community can truly flourish amidst an atmosphere of fear and instability. He articulated, “Security remains the foundation of every prosperous society. Without peace and stability, economic growth slows, investments decline and communities struggle to thrive. This is why the protection of lives and property remains one of the most important responsibilities of government.”
He further stressed that achieving enduring peace necessitates robust collaboration among the government, various security outfits, traditional institutions, religious bodies, private businesses, and the general populace. The governor also highlighted his administration's ongoing commitment to enhancing the state's security framework. This is being achieved through strategic partnerships with security agencies and local communities, alongside significant investments in logistical support and operational capabilities.
In a recent development, Governor Oborevwori disclosed that Operation Delta Sweep, the joint security initiative specifically established to combat crime across Delta State, has undergone a comprehensive restructuring and strengthening. Furthermore, he revealed that the State Executive Council has given its approval for the construction of new divisional police headquarters in all 25 local government areas, a preparatory step towards the eventual implementation of state police.
