Libyan Authorities Nab Two Nigerians Over Alleged Inciting Online Content

Libyan security forces have apprehended two Nigerian citizens in the coastal town of Qarabouli, near Tripoli, on accusations of circulating inflammatory material via social media platforms. According to a report published by The Libya Observer on Wednesday, the individuals were taken into custody for purportedly sharing videos and other digital content that officials deemed "inciting," promoting acts of violence and criminal behaviour.
Authorities stated that this content constitutes a breach of Libyan legislation and poses a danger to national peace and order. It was confirmed that formal charges have been brought against both detainees, and all preliminary legal steps have been finalized. Their cases have now been forwarded to the Public Prosecution Office for further inquiry and potential legal action under Libya's criminal statutes.
While specific details regarding the suspects' identities were not immediately released, this incident highlights persistent worries about the misuse of social media in Libya. In recent years, the government has increasingly monitored online activities perceived as threats to national security, making this case part of a broader crackdown.
