Kogi Government House Inspector Loses Service Rifle, Ammo After Car Theft

An internal police wireless message, obtained by SaharaReporters, confirms that an inspector serving with the Kogi State Government House in Lokoja is currently without his service assault rifle and 30 live rounds of ammunition. This unfortunate incident occurred after his vehicle was reportedly stolen by suspected criminals, who subsequently made away with the weapon.
The official police dispatch, dated June 16, 2026, and disseminated nationwide to various commands, identified the missing firearm as belonging to Inspector Mohammed Abdullahi, a member of the Government House security contingent in Lokoja.
The report detailed how Inspector Abdullahi, on June 13 at approximately 7:30 p.m., parked his Toyota Camry, registered as ZKW 650AA in Kaduna, within the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) compound in Lokoja. Inside the car, he had left a police rifle, specifically breech number FA 4082, along with 30 rounds of 7.62×39mm live ammunition. Upon his return, the officer discovered his vehicle had been taken.
Subsequent to this report, police high command promptly notified all divisions, patrol teams, the Control Room, and the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) within Lokoja. Teams were swiftly deployed throughout the city and its surrounding routes in a bid to locate and retrieve both the stolen vehicle and the firearm.
The same wireless communication confirmed that the Toyota Camry was later discovered deserted directly opposite the Federal University, Felele, Lokoja. Regrettably, the rifle and its accompanying ammunition were no longer inside when the car was found.
In response, police authorities have initiated a comprehensive nationwide search for the vanished firearm. Directives have been issued to all state commands, tactical units, patrol teams, detectives, and operatives to redouble their efforts in tracing and recovering the weapon.
The dispatch also mandated officers nationwide to share details of the stolen rifle within their respective formations and divisions, with an instruction to promptly inform the Kogi State Police Command should the weapon be sighted.
The wireless message explicitly stated: “Be informed that on 13/06/2026 at about 19:30 hours, Police Number 372825, Inspector Mohammed Abdullahi, attached to my office, reported that he parked his Toyota Camry with Kaduna State registration number ZKW 650AA at the NUJ Secretariat, Lokoja, with a police rifle (breech number FA 4082) and 30 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm live ammunition inside the vehicle.”
It further added: “When he returned, the vehicle was missing.”
The signal also detailed the immediate response: “Upon receipt of the report, the following units were informed: SUPOLs ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, and ‘D’ Divisions, the Control Room, and the Divisional Crime Branch (VCRU), Lokoja.”
Additionally, it mentioned: “Teams from MINE and VERU Lokoja were mobilised to patrol the town and major roads for possible recovery of the vehicle and rifle.”
Concluding, the message stated: “The vehicle was later found abandoned opposite the Federal University, Lokoja, Felele, while the rifle had been taken away.”
