Adamawa Police Command Targets Vehicles Operating Without Proper Registration

The Adamawa State Police Command has initiated a significant operation to seize vehicles found on the roads without valid registration number plates, or those whose plates are hidden, altered, or defaced. This enforcement drive, announced in a statement on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, follows the establishment of a dedicated task force by the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan.
CP Hassan's directive is in direct alignment with a broader mandate from the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun. The aim is to curb the prevalence of vehicles operating without any registration details or with deliberately obscured plate numbers. The Commissioner of Police has assembled a specialized team, comprising officers from various departments and formations within the command. This task force, under the leadership of DCP Abubakar Haruna, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, is charged with overseeing compliance and conducting enforcement activities across the entire state.
The police command has voiced considerable concern regarding the escalating use of vehicles that are either unregistered or improperly identified. Such a trend, they noted, presents a grave risk to public safety and security, impeding efforts in crime prevention, intelligence gathering, and overall public protection. The statement highlighted that “Criminal elements often exploit such vehicles to perpetrate crimes and evade detection.”
The newly formed task force has been given a clear mandate: to identify, stop, and take appropriate legal measures against any vehicle discovered operating without official registration plates or with numbers that are concealed, modified, covered, or tampered with. The command warned that vehicles found in violation “may be impounded and subjected to necessary legal procedures in accordance with extant laws.”
In light of this development, the Commissioner of Police has appealed to all vehicle owners and road users in Adamawa State to strictly adhere to vehicle registration requirements and all traffic regulations. He issued a stern warning that the enforcement campaign would be executed impartially, assuring that no individual or group would be exempted from compliance.
