Kaduna Man Denies Paternity of Wife's Three-Month-Old Pregnancy

In a shocking turn of events, a 38-year-old man, Samaila Salisu, has publicly denied being the father of his estranged wife's three-month-old pregnancy. The drama unfolded at the Sharia Court in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, where Salisu claimed to have had intimate relations with his wife, Maryam Ibrahim, only six times since their marriage. 'I had intercourse with her only six times since we got married. I am not aware of any pregnancy. I am just hearing the news today. I am sure the pregnancy does not belong to me,' Salisu told the court. He further alleged that his wife had left their matrimonial home and that he had witnesses who could testify that the pregnancy was not his. On the other hand, Maryam insisted that the baby belonged to Salisu, stating that they had spent time together even after she left their home. 'My husband failed to keep his promise to take care of me. I wasn’t comfortable in the village where he kept me. In the village, my breakfast was pap without sugar and leftover food. Back here in the city, I take tea with milk and bread. I couldn’t cope living in the village,' she explained. The court has adjourned the matter, giving Salisu the opportunity to present witnesses who can support his claim that his wife cheated on him and got pregnant. If his witnesses fail to convince the court, Salisu risks being punished for lying and defaming his wife.
