The United Against Terror Movement recently organized its third peaceful march in Abuja, with the aim of promoting national unity and urging stronger action against terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, and corruption in Nigeria. On Thursday, participants marched through parts of the Federal Capital Territory, displaying banners and placards that called for a national consensus against terrorism and criminality. According to a statement released on Sunday, the protesters emphasized that insecurity has become a major threat to Nigeria's stability, development, and future. They appealed to political leaders and citizens to put aside their partisan interests and work together to address the country's worsening security challenges. UATM Co-Convener Okai Austin stressed that Nigerians must move beyond blame games and take collective responsibility in addressing insecurity. Austin stated, 'Insecurity and corruption have become heavy national burdens that require action beyond political lines,' emphasizing that national security must remain a shared responsibility rather than a subject of partisan contestation. He advocated for stronger intelligence gathering, improved coordination among security agencies, and greater support for efforts aimed at protecting lives and property across the country. The demonstrators also urged the Federal Government to treat the rising cases of kidnapping and terrorist attacks as a national emergency, warning that continued insecurity could undermine economic growth, social cohesion, and public confidence in state institutions. The movement has intensified public engagement in recent days to draw attention to the country's security crisis and mobilize support for lasting solutions. The group reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful civic engagement and pledged to continue advocating policies that promote security, accountability, national unity, and good governance.
