Akpabio Calls for Exposure of Terrorism Sponsors in Nigeria

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has urged Nigerians to maintain hope and continue praying for the country, especially for the exposure of those sponsoring terrorism. Akpabio made this statement during an inter-denominational church service held at the National Christian Centre in Abuja as part of the activities marking this year's Democracy Day celebration. He reflected on his time as governor of Akwa Ibom State, where he introduced monthly prayer sessions to tackle rising cases of kidnapping, militancy, and killings. Akpabio emphasized the importance of prayer, stating that if Nigerians were not praying, the situation in the country would be worse. He expressed his concern about the current state of insecurity in the country, where communities have been attacked, farmers are afraid to return to their fields, and travelers are uncertain about their safety. The Senate President also acknowledged the pain caused by kidnappings and violent attacks, while calling for national resilience and assuring Nigerians that the current administration is committed to ending insecurity and restoring peace across the country. He mentioned that President Bola Tinubu has directed that this year's Democracy Day be observed in a low-key manner due to the current situation in the country. Akpabio spoke emotionally about the impact of violence on families, recalling his experience during the Nigerian civil war. He assured Nigerians that there is a brighter tomorrow and that the evil being witnessed today will soon come to an end. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, also spoke at the service, stating that the federal government is intensifying efforts to ease economic hardship and strengthen measures to defeat insecurity and secure the release of all abducted persons nationwide.
