According to reports, Maru was abducted in early May while on his way to Anka, along with several other passengers, when their vehicle was intercepted by armed bandits. The kidnappers subsequently contacted Maru's family, demanding a ransom that far exceeded their financial capabilities. Following intense negotiations and efforts, the family managed to raise and pay the agreed-upon amount, hoping to secure Maru's release. However, in a shocking and devastating move, the bandits reneged on their promise and took Maru's life instead.
