The Lagos State Police Command has revealed that a group of kidnappers, who were neutralised at Jakande Gate in the Ejigbo area, had been hiding in the state for four days before launching their attack on May 24, 2026. According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, the gang, which specialises in targeting wealthy businessmen, had entered Lagos to carry out their operation. The police commissioner disclosed that his team received intelligence about the planned attack and was able to foil it, resulting in the death of four gang members. Fatai stated that the gang leader, Ifeanyi, also known as 'Ifeko,' is reportedly based abroad and had come to Lagos with other gang members from the South-East to carry out the operation. The commissioner added that Ifeanyi has been linked to the training of Henry Asoona, the alleged leader of the billionaire kidnappers who were neutralised at the Ladipo International Spare Parts Market in 2024. In a separate operation, the police arrested 57-year-old Akintayo Wasiu in Ibadan, Oyo State, for stealing a Toyota Hiace Space Bus. The suspect, who was employed as the driver of the vehicle, allegedly stole the bus and attempted to evade arrest by changing the vehicle documents and his phone number. Fatai also disclosed that on May 23, 2026, police officers arrested 31-year-old Waliu Olaleye, the alleged leader of the Aiye Confraternity group in Igando, and recovered a locally made double-barrel pistol concealed in his apartment. The police also responded to reports of hoodlums robbing residents around Ikola and adjoining communities, recovering a locally fabricated Beretta pistol concealed on a motorcycle. The commissioner attributed the successes recorded by the command in May to the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and proactive crime prevention strategies, assuring residents that there would be no hiding place for criminal elements anywhere in Lagos State.
