Following the recent abduction of 42 students by suspected Boko Haram terrorists, the Borno State Government has taken immediate action to ensure the safety of the remaining students. On Monday, May 25, the state Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Lawan Wakilbe, announced the temporary closure and relocation of the Government Day Secondary School, Mussa, in Askira/Uba Local Government Area. This decision was made during a visit to the community, where Wakilbe conveyed the sympathy and solidarity of the government and people of Borno State to the parents of the abducted students. The commissioner assured the parents that the government is working tirelessly to secure the safe rescue of the students. As part of the Safe Schools Initiative, the students of Government Day Secondary School, Mussa, will be relocated to Government Secondary School, Uba, where they will continue their education in a safer environment. The abduction occurred on May 16, when suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School, resulting in the abduction of 42 students and pupils. According to the lawmaker representing Borno South Senatorial District, Muhammade Ndume, the abducted students include four students from the secondary school, 28 pupils from the primary section, and 10 children who were abducted from their residential houses. The state government's decision to relocate the school is a proactive measure to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of the students.
