Romance Turns Deadly: Virginia Mother of Three Meets Tragic End in West Virginia

In a shocking turn of events, a mother of three from Virginia, Angel Whitaker, 37, was allegedly murdered by her romantic partner, Donald Pennington, 59, after he lured her to West Virginia with a job offer. According to a criminal complaint, Whitaker had met Pennington at a Bristol auto shop in 2018 and the two began a romantic relationship shortly after. In January 2026, Pennington offered Whitaker an assistant manager position at an O'Reilly Auto Parts store in Bluefield, West Virginia, prompting her to relocate from her home in Bristol, Virginia. However, by April, Whitaker's family had lost all contact with her, and her sister, Angela, reported her missing on May 4. Investigators discovered that the relationship between Whitaker and Pennington had become strained after she moved in with him, and in the weeks leading up to her disappearance, Whitaker had moved into a Princeton hotel to distance herself from the situation. The last time Whitaker was seen was on April 17, 2026, when she allegedly showed up to work intoxicated. Pennington claimed he had driven her home, but when he returned from work later that day, she was nowhere to be found. More than a week after Whitaker was reported missing, Pennington's ex-girlfriend met with investigators and revealed that Pennington had told her he had murdered Whitaker. The ex-girlfriend also stated that Pennington had shown her a photo of Whitaker's body, taken from the victim's phone, and had disposed of Whitaker's phones by soaking them in bleach and destroying their SIM cards. Furthermore, the ex-girlfriend led investigators to a location in Bastian, Virginia, where Pennington had allegedly buried Whitaker's body. Although Virginia State Police cadaver dogs were deployed to the scene, they were unable to locate Whitaker's remains. Pennington was arrested on May 13 and is being held at the West Virginia Regional Jail & Correctional Facility Authority. He has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and concealment of a body. Whitaker leaves behind three children: 18-year-old son Braiden, 17-year-old daughter Daizy, and 12-year-old son Christopher.
