In a recent development, Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, has released what he claims is evidence to support his allegations of bribery against Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress. According to Okonkwo, Obi and other leaders of the NDC in the South East collected N10 million and N20 million from House of Representatives and senatorial aspirants, respectively. Okonkwo made this claim public on Monday, stating that one of the aspirants, Obunike Ohaegbu, had disclosed the alleged bribe to him, complete with a receipt. In response to the allegations, Obi's legal team has filed a lawsuit. However, Okonkwo has further substantiated his claims by releasing alleged Whatsapp chats between himself and Obunike, in which Obunike purportedly reveals how Obi was involved in the alleged bribery scheme. In one of the chats, Obunike allegedly told Okonkwo that when he questioned the party about who authorized the payment, the party named Peter Obi and the caucus leaders assembled by him. This latest revelation has added fuel to the fire, with many calling for clarity and transparency in the matter.
