Beartooth's Caleb Shomo Reveals Homophobia Post-Coming Out and Divorce

Full Story
Caleb Shomo, the frontman for the band Beartooth, has shared his experience of encountering significant homophobia following his public announcement as a gay man and his subsequent separation from his wife, Fleur Shomo. During an appearance on The Breakdown with Nath & Johnny podcast, Shomo disclosed that his initial coming out to close friends and family occurred in September 2025. He then made a public declaration in May 2026, affirming himself as a “proudly gay man.”
The 33-year-old vocalist stated his resolve not to conceal or diminish his authentic self, even in the face of backlash. He explicitly stated, “I had already decided, like, I’m not gonna water myself down at all.” Shomo further explained his desire for the liberty to express himself through his attire, music, and overall presentation, but noted this was met with considerable resistance.
The singer admitted that the intense criticism became challenging to manage, leading him to temporarily withdraw from online platforms while addressing personal life difficulties. His public coming out in May 2026 coincided with the month he and Fleur Shomo mutually filed for their divorce. Both Fleur and his fellow band members publicly demonstrated their solidarity with him after his announcement. Caleb acknowledged that he continues to encounter criticism, but his current focus is on channeling his experiences into his upcoming musical projects.
