Bella Okagbue Explains Decision to End Relationship with Sheggz

Former Big Brother Naija participant, Bella Okagbue, has publicly affirmed the conclusion of her romantic relationship with fellow reality television personality, Segun Olusemo, widely recognized as Sheggz. She attributed her choice to grant him a second opportunity to her belief in individuals' capacity for change. Bella conveyed this information through a statement shared on her Instagram story on Friday. This announcement came days after Sheggz had already confirmed in public that their relationship had dissolved in January 2026.

The reality TV personality stated that her prolonged silence, while others narrated their relationship's story, was a deliberate decision, as she believed certain matters were best kept private. However, she emphasized that her quietness should not be misconstrued as an admission of fault. "For the past few days, I have watched people tell my story for me. I stayed silent because I believed some things deserved to remain private, but my silence should never be mistaken for guilt," she declared.

Bella further expressed that her love was genuine, and she had defended the relationship because she held strong faith in it at the time. She explained that she consciously gave Sheggz another chance, convinced that he possessed the potential for growth and transformation. "I loved genuinely. I defended the relationship because I believed in it at the time, and I chose to give someone I loved a second chance because I believe people can grow and change. That was my choice, and I own it," she added.

Nevertheless, she clarified that believing in someone's ability to evolve does not impose an obligation to wait indefinitely for such changes to manifest. "But believing in someone’s capacity to change does not obligate you to wait forever for that change," Bella asserted. She also highlighted that an individual's public persona might significantly differ from the one experienced intimately within a relationship. "The person everyone experiences publicly isn’t always the person you experience privately," she noted.

Addressing the ongoing discussions surrounding marriage and the engagement ring, Bella refuted any suggestions that her desire for marriage with a loved one indicated desperation. She articulated that choosing to exit a relationship she no longer deemed suitable for marriage was, in fact, an act of wisdom and discernment. "On marriage and the ring, let me be clear: wanting marriage with someone you love is not desperation. Knowing when not to marry them is discernment. Sometimes, it takes more courage to walk away than to stay," she stated. She further added that a mere ring could not resolve the fundamental issues that had rendered the relationship unsustainable. "A ring doesn’t fix what made a relationship impossible."

Bella also touched upon unfulfilled promises, indicating that she eventually shifted her focus from mere words to observing consistent patterns. "A hundred promises. Not one fulfilled. At some point, you stop listening to promises and start paying attention to patterns," she revealed. She acknowledged the existence of various accounts concerning their breakup but maintained that certain aspects of her personal experience would remain private. "There are versions of events circulating that do not reflect my experience, just as there are parts of my experience I have chosen not to discuss publicly yet. Those are mine to tell, when appropriate," she commented.

Ultimately, Bella expressed that she had given love, personal growth, and loyalty ample chances, but reached a juncture where safeguarding her peace became paramount. "I gave love a chance. I gave change a chance. I gave loyalty in abundance. But even loyalty has an expiry date when trust, respect and peace can no longer coexist with it," she concluded. She affirmed that she harbored no regrets about attempting to reconcile but had now chosen to prioritize her own well-being. "I don’t regret being the woman who chose to try again. I respect the woman I am today enough to know when trying again is no longer the answer. So today, I choose myself. I choose differently, regardless of what comes with it."

Prior to Bella's statement, Sheggz had, on Tuesday, confirmed the end of his relationship with Bella, specifying that the separation occurred in January 2026. He mentioned that he had initially refrained from discussing the matter publicly out of deference to his family and his preference for keeping his private affairs away from public scrutiny. However, he decided to speak out following what he described as attempts to tarnish his image. "I have never spoken publicly on the internet out of respect for my family, and it simply isn’t my nature to do so," he stated. He also refuted allegations of infidelity or abuse towards Bella during their time together. "I am a man who values family, friendship, integrity and my faith. I am a brother, a friend to many and most importantly, I know the values I stand for. I am not an abuser."

Sheggz further denied any unfaithfulness to Bella, confirming that he has remained unattached since their relationship concluded. "For clarity, I did not cheat on Bella, and I have been single since January 2026. The relationship ended in January 2026," he clarified. According to him, they made attempts to reconcile after the initial breakup, but he eventually concluded that persistent issues concerning trust and respect made the prospect of marriage unfeasible.
