Edo State Cracks Down on Illegal Revenue Collection with Two Arrests

In a move to curb unauthorized revenue collection, the Edo State Revenue Taskforce has apprehended two individuals, Tony Amayo and Thompson Okun, at the Uwelu Spare Parts Market in Egor Local Government Area. The arrest was made following numerous complaints from traders and customers who alleged that the suspects were extorting money from them under the guise of revenue collection. According to the Commander of the Edo State Revenue Taskforce, Johnbull Rufus, the suspects were caught in the act of issuing unauthorized tickets and demanding payments from business owners, despite a state government directive banning such practices. Rufus stated, 'The taskforce received complaints from traders and customers at the Uwelu Market that some individuals were extorting people carrying out their legitimate business activities.' He added that upon receiving these complaints, the taskforce swiftly launched an operation that resulted in the arrest of the two suspects. The Edo State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents and business owners from extortion and other forms of unauthorized revenue collection. Rufus warned those involved in such activities to cease their operations or face the full force of the law.
