Enugu Government Unveils Ambitious Infrastructure Projects to Boost Economy

The Enugu State Government has given the green light for a slew of projects aimed at transforming the state's infrastructure. This move is part of the administration's broader vision to significantly grow the state's economy. According to the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, the State Executive Council (SEC) recently approved the commencement of several projects spanning roads, tourism, housing, and administrative infrastructure across various parts of the state. The Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ben Osy Okoh, disclosed that the SEC approved the completion and upgrade of Wings C and D of the Enugu State Secretariat Complex in GRA, Enugu. This project will involve a total transformation and remodeling of the Secretariat with modern facilities. Additionally, the government has approved the construction of 1,000 fully detached terrace housing units, comprising four- and five-bedroom units, as well as the development of 18,000 mass housing units at Gateway Estate in Enugu. The state government has also given the nod for the immediate commencement of a 10.5km Igogoro-Amachara-Ikpamodo-Okpo-Amaada road project. Furthermore, the SEC approved the procurement of over 30 pieces of light equipment for the Ministry of Works for direct labour projects, intervention, and maintenance works. In the tourism sector, the government has approved the development of three landmark projects: the Ovu Lake Golf Resort, the Akwuke and Attakwu Tourism Development Projects, and the Okpatu–Awhum Cable Car Project. The Ovu Lake Golf Resort will feature an 18-hole championship golf course, a luxury hotel, and other world-class recreational facilities. The Attakwu Tourism Project will transform the area into a major ecotourism destination, while the Akwuke Tourism Project will feature a modern sand beach, theme park, and comprehensive recreational park. The Okpatu–Awhum Cable Car Project will commence from Okpatu Hill and traverse approximately 5.32 kilometers to the Awhum Waterfall, offering a safe and scenic cable car ride for visitors.
