MTN Nigeria CEO's Claim on Unlimited Data Challenged by Nigerians Abroad

Karl Toriola, the Chief Executive Officer of MTN Nigeria, recently made a statement that has sparked a debate about the availability of unlimited data plans worldwide. According to Toriola, it is not possible to have truly unlimited data plans anywhere in the world unless one is willing to pay a hefty sum of money. He explained that the reason for this is that it is impossible to build enough capacity to accommodate everyone on an unlimited bundle while still maintaining a decent quality of service. Toriola's statement was made at a recent event where he said, 'The issue of unlimited data on mobile networks: it doesn't exist anywhere in the world except if you're paying a fortune. There's a limit because you can never build enough capacity for everyone to be on an unlimited bundle, and you think you'll provide a quality of service that is decent.' However, this claim has been disputed by some Nigerians living abroad who have come forward to share their experiences with unlimited data plans in other countries. These individuals have shared screenshots of their monthly subscriptions, which they claim are affordable and comparable to the equivalent of just a few hours of work at minimum wage in countries like the United Kingdom. This has led to a pushback against Toriola's assertion, with many arguing that unlimited data plans can be affordable and accessible in other parts of the world.
