The Lagos State Government has announced the indefinite closure of Eko Bridge outbound carriageway leading to Lagos Island for emergency safety investigations and repair works. The closure is scheduled to commence on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, according to the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who disclosed the development on Sunday. The government said the measure was introduced to allow safety investigations and repair works on the bridge. Motorists travelling through Apongbon and Ijora Olopa have been advised to make use of the Third Mainland Bridge to access their destinations during the period of the closure. The commissioner, however, stated that the inward Lagos Island carriageway would remain open to motorists. He also said traffic and security officials would be deployed to manage vehicular movement along alternative routes. “The inward Lagos Island carriageway will remain open to motorists. Adequate traffic and security personnel will be deployed along alternative routes to guide motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow,” Oluwaseun assured.
