The 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup in Brazil has taken a significant step forward with the qualification of two African nations, Algeria and Morocco. These North African countries secured their places in the global tournament following their victories in the quarter-finals of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations. Algeria made history by qualifying for the World Cup for the first time, overcoming a deficit to defeat Côte d'Ivoire 2-1. Similarly, Morocco emerged victorious, defeating South Africa by the same scoreline of 2-1. According to established rules, both nations automatically qualified for the World Cup by reaching the semi-finals of the WAFCON. Two additional African nations will join Algeria and Morocco at the 2027 World Cup after the remaining WAFCON quarter-finals. The upcoming matches will see Cameroon face Nigeria, while Malawi takes on Ghana, with the winners of these matches also securing World Cup qualification. Meanwhile, Côte d'Ivoire and South Africa, who lost in the quarter-finals, still have a chance to qualify through the FIFA Play-Off Tournament. The play-off match between the two losing quarter-finalists is scheduled for August 13, with the winner advancing to the World Cup alongside one of the other losing quarter-finalists.
